School Planner


Description

The person selected for this position will assist in planning activities as contracted with client school districts.  Such activities will involve most school site and facility planning elements from a support services perspective but is not involved with academic programs.  Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are essential to successfully accomplish the responsibilities assigned.

 

General Responsibilties 


Monitor and record proposed residential and commercial development within school district boundaries.  Ensure that information can be directly incorporated into a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database.

Review land use applications and prepare referral responses regarding new the applications for effects upon the School District, including analysis of capital costs for new schools and school sites and/or cash-in-lieu requirements, and recommend ideal school sites.

Prepare student enrollment projections via analysis of future land development proposals and population trends using various community-planning databases.

Assist with evaluation and selection of school sites for construction of new schools.

Serve in an advisory capacity to district personnel regarding demographic and growth issues.

Maintain and report the status of enrollment growth on annual and monthly bases.

Assist in meetings with District staff and, possibly, public agencies upon the District’s request.

Strategize options and assist with developer and municipal/county negotiations.

Assist with the development of intergovernmental agreements (IGA’s) regarding joint use of school sites and other activities as needed.

Assist in meetings with District committees such as a Long Range Facilities or Citizens Growth Committee.

Develop, recommend, interpret and evaluate policies, regulations, procedures, and standards for school sites, school attendance areas (all levels), and facilities.

Prepare comprehensive written reports and present information and/or recommendations to committees, the public, or Boards of Education.  This could include Facility Master Plans, Strategic Plans, District Annual Reports, and more.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor of Science degree in a related field (e. g., economics, finance, urban or regional planning, or real estate); previous experience will be considered.  Masters degree preferred.

Valid Colorado driver's license.

Ability to successfully complete a writing sample at the time of interview or provide copies of representative work.
